In Clinic - STANTON MOORE

Soul Drums is proud to host Stanton Moore for an appearance on Thursday April 10th.

St. George’s Anglican Church Hall
5350 Yonge Street Toronto
1 block north of Soul Drums
7:30-9:00pm

Born and raised in New Orleans (and living there still, when he’s not on the road), Stanton Moore is very much a product of geography, culture and creative networking.

He grew up in the thriving music scene of his hometown and stays very involved in education, constantly teaching private lessons in New Orleans and on the road. He was a contributing writer for Drum! magazine and is currently a regular writer for Modern Drummer, which featured him on their April 2004 cover. He is a founding member of the popular "steamroller funk" band Galactic.

Afro Cuban Rumba

One of the most popular styles of music in the world.

However, overtime, there has been a lot of confusion surrounding the concept of Afro Cuban Rumba. This workshop will help better define the true essence of this particular style of music. Conga will be the instrument of focus, although timbales, bongos and other smaller, yet significant, instruments will also be considered. We will concentrate primarily on the basic patterns of a series of different Rumba rhythms that include Yambu, Guaguanco and Columbia as well as a few styles of popular Cuban music such as Son, Bolero and Guaracha. In addition we will take a general look into the Yoruba culture and how its rhythms are performed with the bata drum as well as instruction on proper tuning. Guest appearances by members of Rumba Iyabo percussion Ensemble.

When: Alternate Mondays starting Sept. 19th
Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Cost: $20
Facilitator: Joaquin Nunez Hidalgo
