Itinerary Overview May 2009

The Retreat Week will include the following highlights: Holguin, Antilla and Santiago City day tours, Holguin Vocational Art School tour, private workshop and performance by legendary Ballet Folkoric "CUTUMBA," masterclass sessions, poolside "Descarga" with local master percussionists and drum circles on the beach.

Also we’ve planned a day trip to a deserted island for music, local food and celebrations with musicians from Antilla – CUBA STYLE!

The major attraction for the week will include formal registration for full participation and all access passes for the Festival la Romeria de Mayo in Holguin City. Festival includes workshops, masterclasses, artist demonstrations, interactive jam sessions and live concert performances by some of the most popular Cuban bands! Viva los Battaria!

Saturday March 28

ARRIVAL AND REGISTRATION 9:00-9:45am

ENERGY FOR ALL - A COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE 10:00-11:45am
Meet, greet, and groove! (Bring your drum and percussion goodies)

LUNCH 12 noon-1:00pm

Session #2

THE DRUM DIAL 1:15-3:00pm
Based on concepts from Doug's latest book, Human Rhythmic Energy, we will experience drum circle games to enhance rhythmic flow, creativity, confidence, ability, and communication skills. Oh... AND DID WE MENTION FUN!

BREAK 3:00-3:30pm

FREEDOM, DISCIPLINE, FREEDOM 3:30-5:30pm
Apply your skills in the drum circle to further enhance your leadership abilities. This journey will stay with you! Rhythm, Retention, and Relaxation!

DINNER 5:30-6:30pm

TONIGHTS N.E.W.S. REPORT7:00-9:00pm
Altaf will take us on a journey with the most up-to-date rhythmic N.E.W.S. report from Africa. Get the latest information from our best anchor in the field. This rhythmic report dives into the drumming styles from North, South, East and West Africa.

Free time
Evening Campfire Session - Weather permitting, we will drum outside or in the gathering hall; your choice!

Sunday March 29th

HUMAN RHYTHMIC ENERGY 9:30 -11:30am
Facilitation skills and techniques will be demonstrated empowering participants to expand their own community drum circles experiences through the real time applications of HRE iconology.

Directions

From the West
Take either Hwys 401/407 to Hwy 427 north and turn left (west) on Hwy 7 to Hwy 50 (just one stoplight west of 427). Take Hwy 50 north from Hwy 7 into Bolton, and turn right on King Street (main intersection at bottom of hill); Take King Street all the way to the 11th Concession, and turn left. Cedar Glen is about 1km up the 11th Concession on your left hand side.

From the East
Take Hwys 401/407/7 to Hwy 400, north. Take 400 north to King Road, exiting King Road west. Go west past Nobleton (Hwy 27 and King Rd.) to the 11th Concession. Turn right on the 11th Concession and watch for our sign. Cedar Glen is about 1km up the road on your left hand side.
