Despite sporadic attempts, and a few isolated prototypes, no drum manufacturer has succeeded in producing solid shell drumsets for the American market-until now. This is hardly surprising. For example, the machinery necessary to steam bend, mold, lathe, turn and finish round single ply bass drum shells, that will stay true, has proven an especially daunting task, considered to be impractical, and too costly for production purposes. Premium boards large enough to be fashioned into the 22″ and 24″ bass drums now finding renewed favor are scarce, and transforming them into musical instruments is a daunting process. Johnny Craviotto thinks its worth it. When you play a Craviotto kit, whether you favor Craviotto Classic traditional jazz sizes, the Custom Shop’s thunderous Big Band sizes, or the progressive, streamlined Craviotto Custom Shop & Classic Series, we think you’ll agree: nothing else sounds like a one ply kit.

The new much anticipated Player Date series from C&C Custom Drums is finally here. Using proprietary Gladstone mahogany shells, these kits are being built by the same crew, and in the same shop as their highly regarded custom series. They are designed to be a more affordable, yet still high quality series of drums. Utilizing their very own “full contact” bearing edge, C&C Player Date kits have an incredibly warm, responsive tone with some great punch and a wide tuning range. The 16×15 floor tom can be tuned much lower than a typical 16×16, without bottoming out or sounding flat. These drums can be seen being played out by the drummers for The Shins, My Morning Jacket, and Modest Mouse.

The Player Date II Drum Sets are crafted using 7 ply Maple/Mahogany/Maple Shells

The distinct and traditional sound of birch has made it the choice of many pro drummers for the last 30 years. But TAMA believes it”s time to take birch in an entirely different direction. By using bubinga wood for the inner layers of a birch shell, TAMA has created a mixture that provides a new sound with a sweeter and deeper tone. This combination exhibits the focused attack of birch along with the enhanced lows of bubinga.

Add a Tama Roadpro Hardware Pack for only $399.00!

TT/FT:4ply Birch + 3 inner plies Bubinga, 6mm
BD:5ply Birch + 3 inner plies Bubinga, 8mm

By using bubinga wood for the inner layer of the birch shell, TAMA has created a new chapter in the Starclassic series.

Hybrid tone, which exhibits the focused attack of birch paired with the enhanced lows of bubinga.

Star-Cast Mounting System

The Star-Cast Mounting System has always provided maximum resonance and stability for TAMA”s pro-drums. A streamlined design makes it easier to position toms closer together for greater ease and comfort than ever before. In addition, a switch to aluminum provides lighter weight and even truer tonal vibration. Last but not least, Star-Cast is now plated to match your drum”s shell hardware!

Slidable Tom Holders

Starclassic Performer”s tom-holder expands setting flexibility with a sliding connector unit that moves back and forth up to 50mm (2 inches). Simply unloosening one bolt allows you to adjust the proximity of the tom toms. Now any sized drum can be exactly positioned with ease!

Die Cast Hoops

Hoops not only affect drum tuning; they also affect drum sound. That”s why the choice of hoops was so important to the designers of TAMA”s professional drum lines. For our Starclassic Series, we choose zinc die-cast hoops, which are manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than triple flanged hoops, which are manufactured by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension bolts always contact the hoop properly. Drums fitted with die-cast hoops also offer crisper attack, clear and resonant highs and much more powerful rim shots.
